Harry Potter Kickin’ Butt at the Box Office
As Harry Potter’s wizardry skills keep growing, so do his box office powers.
Coincidentally, as Hermione keeps growing so does the male population’s … uh … thingies.
I like Hermione (Emma Watson). She makes me feel funny down there. I digress, but what do you expect from Horndog? Getting back to the real subject of this post, Harry Potter fans will be happy to know that in its first five days of release, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” the fifth film based on the J. K. Rowling books, sold an estimated $140 million in tickets. That was enough to break several records, including biggest opening on a Wednesday and biggest five-day non-holiday total.

The tally marks the strongest five-day performance in the movie franchise’s history, according to Box Office Mojo, an online tracking service. The second highest belongs to the fourth film, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” which earned $119.7 million in its first five days in 2005.
“The Order of the Phoenix” had a three-day weekend total of $77.4 million. It also opened to robust receipts internationally, with about $190 million. Warner Brothers said the movie outperformed its predecessors in most countries and broke a handful of sales records.

Amanda Bynes at the London Premiere of Hairspray

I remember watching Amanda Bynes in past years when she had her own show, The Amanda Show, and knew she was going to grow up to be a hottie.
Actually, she was a hottie then, but you are not allowed to think that until she grows up. She is now 21 years old and is one of the stars in the new Hairspray Movie.
Here she is looking very hot and the London Premiere of Hairspray.

National Lampoon Stakes Revival on Making Own Films

“Did you say ‘over?’ ” the character played by John Belushi asked in “National Lampoon’s Animal House” in 1978. “Nothing’s over till we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell, no!”
It was arguably the high point for both the movie and National Lampoon itself, once a comedic standard-bearer that for most of the last two decades has run on little more than fumes, licensing its name to dozens of movies that failed spectacularly while producing few of its own. The company has not published the magazine that first made it famous in nearly 10 years.
“The National Lampoon, once a brand name above nearly all others in comedy, has become shorthand for pathetic frat boy humor,” an Associated Press review of “Van Wilder 2,” a movie made using the company’s name, said last year. Added Variety, “The four-years-in-the-making, badly recycled (not to mention awful) sequel might stain the honor of the Lampoon label if it hadn’t already produced several even worse films.”
But now, like the history-challenged Mr. Belushi rallying his fraternity brothers, National Lampoon is trying to escape its doldrums.

I like "frat boy humor", but I do think they could do better than they have recently. They just need to get some new young blood in there.

Blood Diamond DVD Review
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly, Djimon Hounsou
Review: “In America it’s bling bling, but out here it’s bling bang,” says Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) in this action-packed flick about Africa’s corrupt diamond trade. Archer goes on the search for a priceless stone with an escaped miner (Djimon Hounsou) who only wants to find his missing son. While DiCaprio’s Afrikaaner accent is uneven, it is Hounsou’s performance that’s unforgettable.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

“The immaterial has become material,†announces the East India Company’s scheming Lord Beckett (Tom Hollander) early in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.†He could be referring to the recent resurrection of the pirate Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), flush with life and his expanded role in the trilogy. Or he could be speaking of his newfound dominion over the Flying Dutchman and its squid-faced captain, Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), whose excavated heart is now in Beckett’s possession.
More likely, though, the words are a subliminal reassurance from the director, Gore Verbinski. After the bloated shenanigans of the previous entry, “Dead Man’s Chest†— perhaps the only pirate movie to see the need for a Ferris wheel — Mr. Verbinski is reminding us why we should ever trust him again.
This third and perhaps final episode in the swishy, swashbuckling saga goes some way toward achieving that goal. The cannibals, coconuts and landlocked locations have been replaced by the high-seas high jinks that made the first film so enjoyable. And the palpable relief as the myriad plotlines rush toward some semblance of resolution has made everyone quite giddy; even our passion-deferred lovers, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann…Full Review on The NY Times Web Site

Bai Ling Sexy Bikini Gallery Promoting Shanghai Baby at Cannes
The movie “Shanghai Baby” starring Bai Ling will be coming out later this year. It is a story of sexual liberation in modern China featuring a Chinese woman, played by Ling, who is torn between her oriental traditions and her lust for a Western lifestyle.
What better way to promote the movie at Cannes than with a sexy bikini photo shoot?

Grindhouse - It’s actually two movies - A Double Feature
I have to admit that I saw the TV ads for Grindhouse, but I didn’t really know what it was until I read this excellent review. It’s actually two different back-to-back movies by directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino - two of my favorites.
"I suppose the concept of the grindhouse is unfamiliar to most people of the college-age generation. It’s certainly not something I’m familiar with firsthand, unfortunately - by the time I was old enough to go to the movies by myself, the dirty old theaters or drive-ins that screened cheap exploitation films filled with sex and gore were all replaced by sanitized multiplexes. That’s good in some ways, but I guarantee that none of these places would dare play any of those old exploitation films such as “The Evil Dead,” “I Spit On Your Grave” or any Italian horror.
Thanks, then, to directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, who now bring the joys of their grindhouse experiences to the masses in an aptly-titled film. “Grindhouse” is more than three hours of unbridled film geek joy, a love letter to ’70s exploitation cinema and cheesy horror movies and a hell of a fun time at the theaters."

Live Free or Die Hard
When a criminal plot, by an Internet-based terrorist organization is in place to take down the entire computer and technological structure that supports the economy of the United States (and the world), it’s up to a decidedly “old school” hero, police detective John McClane (Bruce Willis), to take down the conspiracy, aided by a young hacker (Justin Long).
I like Bruce Willis and the Die Hard movies. I like his character’s New York attitude and I like to see a macho guy kick bad guys’ asses and blow shit up. It’s good guy stuff all the way around, and what good guy stuff would be complete without a hot-ass babe in the picture?
Say hello to Maggie Q, who plays the character of Mai Lihn.

Paris Hilton is Supergirl!
Rumor has it that Paris Hilton will be the next Supergirl. I think that’s freakin’ great! Perhaps comic book fans will be throwing up upon hearing this, but I love it. I think Supergirl is the perfect combination of cheesy and sexy, so who better to play her than Paris Hilton? I can’t wait to see Paris in her Supergirl costume. We’ll have to settle for the fake I made to accompany this article for now.
I hope this is true. Here’s the only news article as of this posting: Paris Hilton Tapped for Supergirl Remake - ComicBookMovie.com (Opens in new window)
In other great news, Paris continues to show us how nice it looks when she wears those super-duper push-up bras that make her boobs look so good that many people wonder if she got a boob job. This isn’t totally new news at this point, but these pictures are new. Enjoy!

Sarah Michelle Gellar to Be in Batman!?!
This may still be an unsubstantiated rumor, but who cares when I have a reason to post about Sarah Michelle Gellar. Supposedly, Sarah Michelle Gellar (best known for her role as Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is in negotiations to join Christian Bale and Maggie Gyllenhaal in Batman: The Dark Knight.
In a posting from an independent filmmaker on website Whedon.info, he writes, “I had been talking back and forth with one of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s reps about a role in a new film I start shooting in May.
“They expressed a morsel of interest… Unfortunately, on Wednesday we were informed that she wouldn’t be able to do it; because there might be a clash with Batman.”
