Ravens cut Jamal Lewis

Ex-con to ex-RavenDuring his time spent out of jail, Jamal Lewis used to play for the Baltimore Ravens, but as of today he is on the open market. Lewis was cut on Wednesday so the Ravens wouldn’t have to pay the star back a 5 million dollar roster bonus on March 3rd. It is still a very strong possibility that Jamal will resign with the Ravens and all of this was just a way for the organization to free up some cap room. If so, hopefully they let Jamal in on the plan because the right offer could have him gone for good.

While no moves in the age of free agency really shock me, I’d be a bit surprised if Jamal signs elsewhere. The Ravens just came off a nice playoff run and if he wants a ring, it may be worth a pay cut to stay with a contender.

NBA All-Star Game: Hip-hop Woodstock

kobe.jpg

If you didn’t see the NBA all star game over the weekend (is there anything worth watching other than the dunk contest?) it might be news to you that the entire weekend was more about the Las Vegas party than the actual game. Personally, I can understand since I’ve had to go to Vegas several times on business and each time just barely got enough work done to not get fired. Most of the players seem to have a lot in common with me. While the game was a ridiculously sloppy game, it did make a great read over on the Page 2 column at ESPN.com

A bit long, but a highly entertaining read ESPN

Just reading that article made me want to hop the next plane to sin city. Who’s with me?

Forsberg traded to the Predators

Going to Nashville

First Philadelphia loses Iverson, now they lose another top player as Peter Forsberg waives his no-trade clause to go to Nashville in exchange for forward Scottie Upshall, defenseman Ryan Parent and two draft picks.

The trade actually makes sense for the struggling Flyers who are basically entering a rebuilding phase for the team.

Tim Hardaway: not a fan of the gays

hardaway.jpg

In fact, if you ask him, he’ll straight up tell you that he hates them. In a recent radio interview, the ex-ball handler came out with the following comment “You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don’t like gay people and I don’t like to be around gay people,”. In case we didn’t get his point, he followed it up with “I’m homophobic. I don’t like it. It shouldn’t be in the world or in the United States. ” Hardaway later apologized for his comments, but that wasn’t enough for the NBA who have banned him from all of the events during All-Star Weekend.

As far as I am concerned, Hardaway is an idiot. He said some dumb things and I think he truly feels that way despite what he said in his apology. He has every right to feel that way and he has every right to comment on it. At the same time, the NBA, as an organization has every right to hand down a punishment for those comments. If they don’t want him associated with their organization, that is their right. While freedom of speech protects your rights to say things, it doesn’t protect you from any backlash. Especially an employer.

Depending on how the brackets get laid out next month, these 2 teams could be seeing each other one more time.

Schottenheimer FIRED!!!

"I'm fired?"

I did not see this one coming. After finishing 14-2 (that’s 14 wins in case you are unsure), the Chargers have decided to fire head coach Marty Schottenheimer citing a “dysfunctional situation” between the coach and GM.

Duke loses again. Streak at 4 in a row.

3 in a row was bad, but 4 in a row is something that hasn’t happened to Duke since 1996. The always present tourney team could be absent from the brackets this year if they don’t make a turnaround quick. This time it was Maryland that gave the beatdown to the Blue Devils with a final score of 72-60.

For any shot of making the madness, Duke will need to step up and win on the road against fellow ACC teams Clemson, BC and UNC.

Anyone give a rats ass about the Pro Bowl?

img9989114.jpg

I’m sure everyone was glued to the tv yesterday, so I’m sure it is not necessary to tell you that the AFC won by a score of 31-28. The completely meaningless game (that is if you don’t count the $40,000 bonus for the players) did have some meaning for at least one player. Saints quarterback Drew Brees dislocated his throwing elbow during the NFC’s second possesion. The injury shouldn’t affect next season, but any throwing arm injury is a bad thing to get during the off season.

With football completely behind us, its time to get focused on college hoops.

USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

Sure, the game was a meaningless exhibition game, but we won damn it! The U.S. soccer team blanked Mexico last night in a 2-0 win. Now all we need is anyone in the states to actually give a shit.

Tar Heels Edge Duke

PWNED!!!

One of the greatest rivalries in college basketball continued last night when the North Carolina Tar Heels traveled 8 miles up the road to Durham, N.C. to face Duke. While Carolina has the overall advantage (125-96), Duke had won the last 16 of 20 meetings. For the most part, the game was all Duke as the Blue Devils led for all but the last five minutes of the game, unfortunately for Duke, they are the most critical minutes on the court. North Carolina took control from there, taking a 70-63 lead with under 2 minutes to play and from that point on, the Tar Heels were able to finish Duke off from the foul line.

Is Duke officially in trouble? I think so. With 6 losses, 3 of them in the LAST 3 GAMES, I’m gonna have to say that things are looking pretty grim for the Blue Devils.
